Parliament confirms nine-member Independent Media Board, six sworn in today
The Hungarian parliament elected six of the nine members of the Independent Media Board and administered their oath, allowing the body to begin work.
In a session of the Országgyűlés, six of the nine seats on the newly created Independent Media Board were filled and the appointees swore their oath, marking the start of the board's activities. The board was established as part of a summer parliamentary majority decision to restructure state media. While the governing coalition secured the six seats, the three opposition nominees were voted down on two occasions, leaving those positions vacant.
The oath ceremony signals the board's readiness to implement the media reform agenda. The unresolved opposition seats highlight ongoing partisan tensions over the board's composition.
