Parliamentary panel urges computer-based NEET UG and stricter vetting of exam paper setters

A parliamentary committee recommended that NEET UG be conducted on computers and that the NTA verify the backgrounds of question setters, citing recent exam irregularities.

The parliamentary panel chaired by Digvijaya Singh has proposed that the NEET UG exam move to a computer-based platform and that the National Testing Agency develop extensive question banks usable without prior knowledge of individual setters. It further suggested a framework to hold the NTA accountable to Parliament and to establish a vetting mechanism for paper setters to ensure their integrity. These measures were prompted by the cancellation of the 2026 NEET UG despite prior safeguards and by a CBI investigation that led to the arrest of a chemistry lecturer alleged to have supplied exam content to coaching classes in Pune. The committee highlighted the need for procedural reforms to restore confidence in the exam process.

Why it matters

Ensuring a secure, computer-based NEET exam and vetting paper setters can restore trust in India's medical entrance testing system.
