Parole panel to review Baby P mother's release in public hearing

A public parole hearing for Connelly, the mother of Baby P, will be livestreamed as the panel decides whether to release her or move her to an open prison.

After a pause of nearly twelve months, a parole hearing for Connelly, the mother of the child known as Baby P, is set to be livestreamed from her prison. The panel will assess whether she can be freed or should be moved to an open-prison environment. Connelly, in her 40s, previously acknowledged that she would be a risk to children and admitted lying about a relationship with Steven Barker, who was convicted of the same offence.

A prison psychologist said there is no evidence she is being deceitful now and that she satisfies the release test, though another expert warned she might still be misleading the panel. The case, marked by earlier missed warnings and a prior parole reversal by then-Justice Secretary Dominic Raab, continues to draw strong public scrutiny.

Why it matters

The hearing determines if a convicted mother linked to a high-profile child-death case can be released, raising public safety concerns.
