PAS explores partnership with UMNO in four Malay states ahead of elections
PAS assistant secretary-general Syahir Sulaiman said early signs point to possible cooperation with UMNO in the four PAS-held states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis, though formal talks have not begun.
PAS assistant secretary-general Syahir Sulaiman indicated that the party is beginning to explore a partnership with UMNO in the four states it currently controls—Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis—collectively known as the SG4. He stressed that it is still early and no formal negotiations have taken place, but both sides have "preliminary indications" of possible cooperation. This follows PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s recent statement that UMNO-BN will head the Malacca state government, while PAS will participate if the coalition wins.
Syahir clarified that Hadi’s comments pertained only to seat talks for Malacca, not the SG4. He also recalled PAS’s earlier acceptance of BN leadership in Negeri Sembilan. UMNO deputy president Mohamad Hasan has suggested using state elections in the SG4 to gauge PAS’s willingness to work together, but no details on seat allocations were provided.
