PAS lawmaker seeks mediation over parliamentary 'munafik' comment
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan wrote to the Dewan Rakyat speaker asking for a mediation session to settle the dispute over his use of the word “munafik” in a budget debate.
PAS secretary-general and Kota Baru MP Takiyuddin Hassan sent a letter to Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul proposing a mediation session to resolve the controversy sparked by his “munafik” remark during the 2027 Budget debate. He clarified that he has not retracted the comment but prefers an amicable discussion with Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, as instructed by the speaker’s office on Thursday, the stipulated deadline.
Takiyuddin said he is waiting for the speaker’s response and warned that failure to mediate could lead to referral to the Committee of Privileges. The announcement followed a press conference after the HIMPAK gathering, attended by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. The speaker had previously ordered Takiyuddin to withdraw the term either in parliament or in writing.
