Passenger receives suspended sentence after trying to open plane emergency door

A 38-year-old passenger was given a four-month suspended prison term and community service for attempting to open an emergency door on a flight from Bangkok to Daegu.

The incident occurred on November 22, 2025, when the passenger pulled the latch of an emergency door while the aircraft was cruising at 37,000 feet. He was charged under the Aviation Security Act and tried the door only once, which the court said posed little danger. The Daegu District Court sentenced him to four months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered 80 hours of community service. The airline involved, formerly T'way Air, has been renamed Trinity Airways.

Why it matters

The case underscores legal penalties for breaching airline security and reinforces safety standards for passengers.
