Passenger trains on Budapest-Belgrade line set to launch on December 13

International passenger service between Belgrade, Budapest and Vienna will start on Dec 13, with eight daily trains scheduled.

Serbian state railway Srbija Voz has verified that passenger trains on the Budapest-Belgrade corridor will commence on Dec 13, following the introduction of a new schedule. Ljubiša Pejičić, the appointed director of Srbija Voz, provided the confirmation, while Hungarian transport minister David Vitézy said documentation for the final inspections should arrive by mid-October, allowing Hungarian-section operations by the end of the month and full cross-border service in December.

The Serbian side reports no level-crossings, whereas Hungary requires additional safety checks for over 90 railway crossings. Srbija Voz plans eight daily departures from Belgrade - six heading to Budapest and two to Vienna - with journey times of three hours to Budapest and six to Vienna, thanks to speeds up to 200 km/h in Serbia and 160 km/h in Hungary. Fares will be €35 between the two capitals and €43 to Vienna.

Why it matters

The new rail link shortens travel times and boosts connectivity between Central European capitals.
