Patriots trade receiver Kayshon Boutte to Texans before Seahawks opener
The New England Patriots have sent wideout Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans, receiving safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round pick in return.
Ahead of the NFL season opener, the New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. The Patriots receive safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in exchange. Boutte, a 24-year-old former five-star recruit and 2023 sixth-round pick, recorded 78 receptions, 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns across three campaigns, including a single 21-yard catch in the Super Bowl loss to Seattle.
His departure follows the Patriots' acquisition of AJ Brown and the signing of Romeo Doubs, which reduced his playing time. In Houston, Boutte is expected to serve as the second-string receiver opposite Nico Collins, stepping in for the injured Jayden Higgins. The trade sets the stage for the Patriots' opening matchup against the defending champion Seattle Seahawks on September 9.
Why it matters
The move reshapes the Patriots' receiving corps and gives the Texans a potential starter before the season starts.
