Pebble Time 2 offers playful, low-cost smartwatch experience with e-paper display
The $225 Pebble Time 2 smartwatch returns with a color e-paper screen, long battery life and a quirky app ecosystem driven by its community.
Pebble Time 2, priced at $225, revives the indie smartwatch with a color e-paper screen that remains visible and can be illuminated via a wrist-tap. Housed in a stainless-steel case with a silicone band, the device is offered in blue, red, silver or black and promises roughly 21 days of battery life on a single charge. Core Devices, led by original founder Eric Migicovsky, leverages an active developer community that has contributed over 2,120 watch faces and a wide range of apps, from simple utilities to retro-style games.
While the watch mirrors phone notifications and includes basic step, sleep and heart-rate tracking, its iOS integration is constrained by platform restrictions. The product’s water resistance is rated at 30 m, suitable for everyday splashes but not swimming. Ongoing firmware updates aim to add features such as noise-cancelling microphone support.
Why it matters
The Pebble Time 2 shows how a niche smartwatch can thrive on community-driven software and low-price hardware.
