Penang chief minister reports eight of ten 2030 targets met or on track

During the launch of the Penang State Government’s eight-year report card, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that eight of Penang2030’s ten key targets are either completed or on schedule, spanning welfare assistance, housing, local-government reform, tourism, education, agriculture, entrepreneurship and youth programmes. The Penang2030 Dashboard, live since June 2022, provides real-time public access to each initiative’s status and assigns a specific State Executive Councillor and officer to monitor it.

While most sectors are advancing, Chow highlighted that agricultural productivity remains below target despite 384 urban farms, calling for greater use of smart, precision and vertical farming technologies leveraging Penang’s electrical-electronics industry. He emphasized that the report serves to reassess the state’s position and guide future direction, noting several large infrastructure projects will extend beyond 2030, leaving strategic choices to his successor. Chow has directed all Exco members to pinpoint any pending or stalled Penang2030 projects and is personally tracking their progress to ensure a smooth handover.
