Pension payments halted for many abroad and student beneficiaries over missing documents

Romania’s Casa de Pensii has warned that pensioners who live outside the country must send a legally certified life-certificate to keep receiving their state pensions; failure to do so will result in a suspension of payments from October, with reinstatement possible after the document is received. The certificate must be signed before a local authority in the beneficiary’s country of residence. In parallel, children and students who receive survivor pensions are required to submit proof of ongoing schooling or university attendance, with a deadline that varies by education level.
Those who do not meet the documentation deadline risk having their benefits halted. The pension office notes that many eligible individuals have not yet fulfilled these obligations, creating a risk of widespread payment interruptions.
