Pentagon mishandles historic Eisenhower globe, causing damage to Antarctica section

Pentagon officials attempted to move a World War II-era Eisenhower globe, and untrained staff dropped it, breaking a chunk near Antarctica.

Pete Hegseth directed aides to retrieve one of two historic Eisenhower globes displayed at the Pentagon. During the move on Feb. 3, staff without proper training dropped the heavy orb, causing a sizable hole in the Antarctica region and separating the globe from its metal base. Army spokesperson Christopher Surridge confirmed the incident and said the globe is currently under repair.

A Defense Department official added that no one was hurt. The globe, linked to General Dwight Eisenhower, is part of a collection usually handled by professional curators. Hegseth, a former National Guard major and one outlet host, has been in the spotlight for other controversial policies.
