Pentagon probe links Palantir Maven AI to deadly Minab school missile strike

Pentagon investigators say the overuse of Palantir’s Maven AI was a key link in the chain that led to two Tomahawk missiles hitting the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, killing at least 123 pupils. Their report points to outdated intelligence, a 90-percent cut in civilian-protection personnel, and operators relying heavily on Maven’s target list, which still flagged the school as an IRGC site. Despite expectations that Maven would block stale information, the system allowed it through, and no senior staff reviewed the target before launch.
The UN’s one outlet's review concluded the school was the intended impact point and suggested the attack could constitute a war crime. Palantir disclaimed responsibility for the underlying data, while the Pentagon says the investigation remains ongoing.
