Perak seeks new car investors for KLK TechPark after BYD exits
The Perak state government announced that several automotive firms are in talks to invest in KLK TechPark, potentially filling the gap left by BYD's withdrawal.
Perak officials confirmed that KLK TechPark is actively seeking automotive investors to replace the Chinese EV maker BYD, which pulled out of its planned CKD vehicle plant in Tanjong Malim. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad explained that discussions are underway with several companies to recover the lost investment and sustain the industrial hub. On the same day, he opened a 2-MW biogas renewable-energy facility at the Papan Ulu Johan Sanitary Landfill, a joint effort by Menteri Besar Incorporated and Teraju Sepadu Sdn Bhd that began operating in May of the previous year.
The plant converts methane from solid waste into electricity, supporting waste-to-energy goals and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions under a circular-economy framework. The state hopes the new automotive partners will revive the economic prospects initially tied to BYD.
Why it matters
The move could preserve jobs and economic growth in Perak by attracting new automotive investment after BYD's exit.
