Perkeso expands pension benefits to cover severe mental health conditions
Perkeso now includes major psychiatric disorders in its Invalidity Pension program, allowing affected contributors to receive monthly payments.
Perkeso announced that workers suffering from serious mental health issues can now receive its Invalidity Pension, a monthly allowance for those unable to work. Azirruan Arifin, deputy chief executive officer (operations), said the organisation regularly approves psychiatric conditions as invalidities, covering disorders such as major depressive disorder, schizophrenia and severe anxiety. The eligibility assessment is conducted by the Perkeso Medical Board, and cases linked to workplace trauma, including PTSD, may be processed under the Employment Injury Scheme if clinically verified.
Beneficiaries must undergo a minimum one-year period of treatment and monitoring to determine disease progression and whether the condition has reached maximum medical improvement. Decisions remain dependent on medical evaluations and board rulings. Perkeso also highlighted its role in promoting workplace mental-health awareness and support.
Why it matters
It extends social security support to workers whose mental illnesses prevent them from working, addressing a growing workplace health concern.
