Perry campaign ad cites neighbor claim that Stelson exposed herself to child

Rep. Scott Perry’s campaign released a TV spot alleging Democratic challenger Janelle Stelson was naked in view of a neighbor’s grandchild, based on a neighbor’s written statement.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) aired a campaign ad accusing Democratic congressional hopeful Janelle Stelson of exposing herself naked to a child, citing a written statement from neighbor Sharon Orr. Orr reported calling police on August 14 after observing Stelson “walking around outdoors” with her breasts and buttocks fully visible and claimed to have taken a photo. East Pennsboro Township police confirmed they responded but declined to release any records, and no criminal charges have been filed.

Stelson’s campaign manager Alma Baker described the accusation as a baseless smear, noting Stelson has previously faced stalking. A second neighbor, Steve Dillon, said he only saw Stelson seated on her deck fully clothed and suggested the clothing might have been light-colored. The ad also mentions a separate indecent-exposure case involving a canvasser linked to Stelson’s campaign, though the campaign denies employing him.

Why it matters

The claim could influence voters in a competitive congressional race by shaping perceptions of the Democratic candidate.
