Perth doctor honored for disarming axe-wielding attacker in clinic

In a North Perth medical clinic, Dr Fergus McCabe responded to frantic cries by entering a room where Dr Anna Chaney and a pregnant patient were being assaulted with an axe. Other clinic staff, including a young receptionist and a patient's father, helped evacuate other patients and confront the assailant. Dr McCabe managed to disarm the attacker, while Dr Chaney, wounded in the abdomen, escaped to receive first aid.

Police arrived shortly after, securing the suspect. The attacker later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, receiving a 23-year prison term. For his actions, Dr McCabe was among 22 individuals awarded a bravery commendation by the Governor-General.
