Peru pitches $39 billion of infrastructure projects to South Korean firms
Peru's investment agency unveiled a $39 billion portfolio of infrastructure and mining projects to attract South Korean investors at a Seoul seminar.
Peru's state-run promotion agency ProInversion showcased a $39 billion slate of 85 infrastructure and mineral projects to South Korean stakeholders during a seminar in Seoul. The portfolio features extensions of the Lima Metro, new rail corridors linking Lima with Ica, Barranca and the Andahuaylas-Marcona corridor, and several special-economic-zone frameworks favored by the new Peruvian administration. Nearly 40 South Korean government officials, public-sector bodies and private firms, including Hyundai Heavy Industries, Posco International and Korea Zinc, participated.
The event also inaugurated the Korea-Peru Business and Friendship Association, chaired by former ambassador and Dohwa Engineering vice-chairman Cho Joon-hyuk, to coordinate future roundtables and business matchmaking. Both nations hope the collaboration will diversify mineral supply chains and expand Korean involvement in Peru's transport and defense sectors.
Why it matters
The initiative could boost Peru's infrastructure while giving Korean firms new markets for minerals and construction.
