Pete Alonso joins the Orioles after departing the Mets

After a December trip to the Winter Meetings, former Mets slugger Pete Alonso signed with the Baltimore Orioles, becoming their marquee acquisition.

In early December, Pete Alonso drove from Tampa to Orlando for the Winter Meetings, where he met with representatives from at least three clubs, none of which were the Mets. Earlier in February 2025, Mets owner Steve Cohen secured Alonso for an additional season after a three-hour discussion at Alonso’s home golf course. That arrangement has now ended, and Alonso has signed with the Baltimore Orioles, becoming the franchise’s headline acquisition.

He is slated to be introduced to fans at Citi Field, where he could further cement his legacy by hitting his 300th career home run, as he stands at 299. The transition marks a significant shift for both the Mets and the Orioles.
