Pete Buttigieg to address South Carolina Democrats as 2028 run looms

Pete Buttigieg is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a Democratic gathering in South Carolina, positioning himself ahead of a Republican Senate primary runoff. He told host Steven Bartlett that he is more inclined than not to run for president in 2028, though many details remain uncertain. A poll of likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire showed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leading with 22% and Buttigieg close behind at 21%.

The Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee voted to place South Carolina at the start of the 2028 primary schedule, with the contest set for Jan. 22, 2028. The proposed calendar also lists Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Michigan, and Virginia before Super Tuesday on March 7. Buttigieg, who finished fifth in the 2020 primary, has remained a prominent potential contender while serving as transportation secretary under President Joe Biden.
