Peter Berg directs Netflix NFL pre-game teasers starring Kyle Chandler

Peter Berg, known for directing the 2004 film "Friday Night Lights," has been tapped to direct the opening videos for each of Netflix’s NFL gameday livestreams this season. The first teaser, titled "For the Love of Football," premiered on September 10 during the Los Angeles Rams versus San Francisco 49ers game streamed from Melbourne, Australia, and features Kyle Chandler, famed for his role as Coach Taylor in the "Friday Night Lights" TV series, providing narration.

Berg will also produce openers for the Thanksgiving Eve Packers-Rams matchup, two Christmas Day games (Packers-Bears and Bills-Broncos), and a Week 18 contest on January 9, 2027. The short film blends footage of youth football with NFL highlights and includes Chandler’s lines about clear eyes and full hearts. Beyond the NFL teasers, Berg recently finished directing, writing and producing the World War II-era sports drama "The Mosquito Bowl," which will debut in theaters on October 30 before arriving on Netflix on November 25.
