Petition to Constitutional Court Seeks to Disqualify Vice President Gibran Over Education Claims
Former deputy minister Denny Indrayana has filed a petition with Indonesia's Constitutional Court to challenge Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's educational qualifications, asking for his removal.
A legal challenge has been launched against Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's eligibility to hold office. Denny Indrayana, a former Deputy Justice and Human Rights Minister and head of the Integrity Law Firm, filed a petition with Indonesia's Constitutional Court on September 10, 2026, questioning the authenticity of Gibran's educational credentials used in the 2024 election. Indrayana claims the documents fail to comply with Regulation No. 19/2023 issued by the General Elections Commission, which was released roughly two weeks before Gibran was announced as Prabowo Subianto's vice-presidential candidate.
The move follows earlier calls from retired TNI officers in May 2025 to impeach Gibran. Indrayana said the idea to contest the education record arose after conversations with former Constitutional Court Justice Harjono. He publicly urged the court to remove Gibran from the vice presidency during a statement in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on September 15.
