Petrol and diesel prices rise by Rs5 per litre effective Sept. 12
The government announced a Rs5.02 increase for petrol and a Rs5.28 rise for high-speed diesel, taking effect on Sept. 12.
Effective Sept. 12, the government raised the retail price of petrol by Rs5.02 per litre, setting it at Rs375.82, and increased high-speed diesel by Rs5.28 per litre to Rs403.32. Existing taxes and duties stay at Rs114 per litre for petrol and Rs100 per litre for diesel. The Petroleum Division’s notice limits the revised rates to a three-day window ending on Sept. 14.
Earlier this year, fuel prices peaked in April before falling, and the cabinet assigned the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to adjust prices daily in response to global market swings. The adjustments affect private vehicle owners, rickshaws, two-wheelers, heavy-transport operators, power plants and large generators, sectors that together account for the bulk of fuel sales.
