Petrol price lifted by Rs1.20 per litre as diesel price trimmed by Re0.17
The government will raise petrol to Rs393.86 per litre and lower high-speed diesel to Rs396.65 per litre starting Oct 15.
Effective Oct 15, the government will increase the retail price of petrol by Rs1.20 per litre, setting it at Rs393.86, and reduce the price of high-speed diesel by Re0.17 to Rs396.65. Both fuels continue to carry taxes of Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel. The change comes after the Petroleum Division moved to daily price fixing in response to volatile international markets linked to the US-Iran conflict.
It also follows austerity steps such as earlier market-closing times, a 50 % cut in official vehicle fuel allocations, and a relief scheme for motorcycles and vehicles up to 800 cc announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik had previously shifted from weekly to daily price revisions. Petrol mainly serves private transport and two-wheelers, while diesel is used by heavy transport and power generation, impacting a broad segment of the population.
Why it matters
Fuel price shifts affect daily commuting costs and operating expenses for businesses across the country.
