Petrol price rises by Rs2.02 per litre while diesel falls by Rs3.59
The government lifted petrol rates by Rs2.02 per litre and lowered high-speed diesel by Rs3.59 per litre, effective from Sept 26 to Sept 28.
According to a notification from the Petroleum Division, petrol prices have been increased by Rs2.02 per litre, bringing the retail rate to Rs391.30, while high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs3.59 per litre to Rs408.53. The tax component stays at Rs114 per litre for petrol and Rs100 per litre for diesel. These adjustments apply from Sept 26 through Sept 28.
The government has re-introduced several austerity measures in response to rising fuel costs, such as a 9 pm market-closing rule and a 50 % reduction in fuel allocations for official vehicles for three months. On Sept 13, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a relief scheme targeting motorcycles, autos and vehicles up to 800 cc. Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said fuel prices would be set daily based on international market trends, shifting from the previous weekly revisions.
