Petronas Chemicals names Izwan Ismail as new MD and CEO starting 2027

Petronas Chemicals Group has appointed Izwan Ismail as managing director and chief executive officer effective 1 January 2027, succeeding Mazuin Ismail who will retire.

Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd announced that Izwan Ismail will assume the roles of managing director and chief executive officer from 1 January 2027, following approval at a special board meeting. The same filing confirmed the resignation of Mazuin Ismail, who will retire from the Petronas group on that date. Izwan, aged 51, has more than 29 years of experience in finance, corporate planning, strategy, commercial management, operations and technology.

Since October 2024, he has served as vice president of group technology and commercialisation at Petronas Nasional, leading AI, digital and R&D initiatives, and he holds directorships at Petronas Gas and other subsidiaries. His career began at Arthur Andersen in Sydney in 1997 before joining Petronas in 2000, where he worked in corporate finance, group accounts and treasury at MISC. He holds a commerce degree from the University of New South Wales and an MBA from Harvard Business School, and is a fellow of CA ANZ and a member of MICPA and MIA.
