PFRDA extends timeline for new NPS PoP charge structure

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority has delayed the start of its revised PoP fee schedule for NPS and NPS Lite schemes.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority issued a circular on October 26, 2026, pushing back the effective date for the revised Points of Presence (PoP) charge regime that applies to all National Pension System (NPS) and NPS Lite schemes. The amendment only alters the rollout schedule; the fee structure announced on August 28, 2026 stays intact. Under the new rules, each new subscriber must pay a Rs 200 onboarding charge per PRAN, which will be recovered in Rs 50 quarterly installments through unit cancellations by Central Recordkeeping Agencies, with payment to the PoP in the following month.

For fully digital onboarding, a reduced one-time fee of Rs 100 may be levied, depending on the regulator’s specifications at the time of registration. Accounts classified as dormant—those with no contributions for four consecutive quarters—will not incur any PoP charges. Minimum contributions are set at Rs 250 at onboarding and Rs 10 for subsequent deposits.

Why it matters

The delay gives existing and prospective NPS participants more time to adjust to new fee arrangements.
