PFRDA revises NPS point-of-presence fees effective October 1, 2026

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority has announced new fee structures for NPS point-of-presence providers, including a Rs 200 onboarding charge and a 0.20% annual asset fee, starting October 1, 2026.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority issued a circular on August 28, 2026 that standardises charges for point-of-presence (PoP) entities under the National Pension System and NPS Lite, effective October 1, 2026. New rules impose a Rs 200 onboarding fee per PRAN, collected in quarterly instalments of Rs 50 through the Central Recordkeeping Agencies and remitted to the PoP the following month. An annual fee equal to 0.20% of the account’s assets under management will be deducted quarterly, except for dormant accounts as defined by four consecutive quarters without contributions.

Subscribers using e-NPS or D-Remit for contributions are exempt from PoP fees, though those who initially joined via a PoP remain liable. Fully digital registrations may be charged Rs 100, depending on regulator-prescribed terms, with GST applied separately. The revised schedule does not affect 4A schemes such as NPS Vatsalya, NPS Swasthya, and NPS MSME, which retain their own fee guidelines, and PoPs must prominently publish the new rates on their sites.

Why it matters

The changes affect how millions of Indian retirees will be charged for managing their pension accounts.
