Philadelphia activist Hannah Gann admits she is white Israeli after identity scandal

Philadelphia teacher Hannah Gann, prominent in left-wing activist circles, publicly admitted that she is a white woman of Jewish Israeli descent, contradicting the mixed-race and Palestinian identity she had long claimed. The confession was posted on Instagram after two local activist groups, the Racial Justice Organizing Committee and Philly Educators for Palestine, confronted her and she acknowledged the falsehood during a meeting.

Gann explained that she had fabricated her background to further her pro-Palestinian work and even hid the truth from her own family. She described the deception as a series of half-truths that grew into outright lies. The incident has drawn comparisons to Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP leader who pretended to be Black. Community members expressed shock, sadness, and anger at the betrayal.
