Philadelphia officer shot 12 times leaves hospital amid public applause

Officer Hector Rodriguez III, who survived a 12-shot ambush that killed his partner, was discharged from Penn Presbyterian Medical Center to cheers from supporters.

Philadelphia police officer Hector Rodriguez III survived a brutal ambush on Oct. 10 in which he was shot 12 times and his partner, Officer Shane Seiber, was killed. After a two-week hospital stay at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Rodriguez was escorted out on a stretcher to a cheering crowd of supporters and fellow officers. The attack prompted a massive police response, including a SWAT barricade, and led to the arrest of Eric Lewis, a Philadelphia Water Department employee, who now faces over 70 state charges and additional federal indictments.

Lewis is being held without bail and his preliminary hearing has been postponed. Police officials thanked medical staff and vowed to stand by Rodriguez and his family throughout his recovery. Seiber, an Air Force veteran, left behind a wife and two young children.
