Philadelphia officers shoot and kill Jamir Cave during Mayfair confrontation
Two Philadelphia police officers fired on 26-year-old Jamir Cave after a struggle on Frankford Avenue, killing him. The shooting is under internal and district attorney investigation.
Philadelphia police identified Jamir Cave, 26, as the man fatally shot during a Mayfair incident last week. Officers Thomas Catalano, a 12-year veteran of the 15th District, and Christian Nguyen, with three years of service, responded to calls about a suspect attempting to open doors on Tyson Avenue and later located Cave on Frankford Avenue. After a foot chase, a struggle ensued near a storage facility, during which Cave held a kitchen-style knife and advanced toward Catalano.
Both officers fired, and Cave died at the scene; Catalano suffered an elbow injury treated at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, while Nguyen escaped injury. Body-camera footage and nearby surveillance are being reviewed, and multiple witnesses have been interviewed. The two officers have been reassigned to administrative duties pending internal and District Attorney investigations.
