Philippine army launches early-morning raid on BIFF strongholds in Tugunan
Combined units of the Philippine Army began a tactical operation on Saturday morning in Tugunan, targeting members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters’ Bungos faction.
Around 6:30 a.m. on September 19, troops from the 40th, 99th and 92nd Infantry Battalions entered the vicinity of Sitio Gawang, Barangay Manaulanan and Barangay Balong in the Special Geographic Area of Bangsamoro. The mission aimed at apprehending BIFF operatives led by Daureen Manampan, known as “Marines.” Local police in Tugunan confirmed the launch of the operation and its focus on the insurgent faction.
