Philippine Coast Guard bans all boat traffic in Aurora as Typhoon Rosal approaches

The Philippine Coast Guard ordered a halt to all motor bancas and other vessels in Aurora province on Tuesday to guard against Super Typhoon Rosal.

On Tuesday, the Coast Guard’s Aurora station issued a travel advisory that temporarily bars motor bancas and other watercraft from operating in the province. The measure aims to avoid maritime accidents as Super Typhoon Rosal, known internationally as Champi, moves toward the area. Fishermen and boat operators were told to stay ashore and follow any further instructions from authorities. The suspension will stay in effect until officials deem conditions safe.

Why it matters

Halting boat traffic reduces the risk of accidents and loss of life as a powerful typhoon threatens coastal communities.
