Philippine Navy tracks 31 Chinese ships near contested West Philippine Sea sites
The Philippine Navy recorded 31 Chinese coast guard and navy vessels operating around four disputed features in the West Philippine Sea between Oct. 13 and 19, up from 27 the week before.
According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the count included 23 China Coast Guard ships and eight People's one outlet Army Navy warships. At the Scarborough Shoal area, also known as Bajo de Masinloc or Panatag, the navy logged 16 Chinese vessels—13 coast guard and three warships. Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad said the monitoring covered four key features in the contested waters. The rise in numbers follows a week-to-week increase in Chinese maritime presence.
