Philippine officials push tighter social-media rules for minors after school shooting
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and PNP chief Gen. Melencio Nartatez Jr visited Banga National High School after a shooting that killed three students, including the suspected gunman, and called for stricter limits on children’s social-media use.
The Sep. 21 visit came after a Sep. 18 attack at Banga National High School that left three pupils dead, one of them the alleged shooter. Remulla, delivering President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s condolences, met school, police and local officials to review security and discuss the impact of harmful online content. He urged the government to adopt tighter controls on minors’ access to social-media platforms, while police chief Nartatez joined the assessment as the investigation proceeds.
