Philippine police subpoena over 21 people in Laos drug shipment probe

The Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has issued subpoenas to more than 21 individuals for statements in the ongoing investigation of a large drug shipment from Laos.

In Manila, the PNP announced that its CIDG unit has called over 21 people to provide testimony regarding a shipment of 521 kilograms of illicit substances that arrived on Oct. 1 from Laos. The subpoenas target persons who may not be directly involved but whose accounts could aid the probe. Police spokesperson Col. Allen Co emphasized the right of those summoned to be heard. The investigation remains active as authorities seek to trace the source and distribution network.

Why it matters

The subpoenas could help dismantle a sizable cross-border drug operation affecting public safety in the Philippines.
