Philippines and France deepen agricultural cooperation after Paris talks
The Philippines and France agreed to expand collaboration in agriculture following high-level meetings in Paris, focusing on technology, research and investment.
High-level talks in Paris on September 23-24 led the Philippines and France to pledge stronger ties in the agricultural sector. The Philippines' Department of Agriculture emphasized that the partnership will bring new technology, expertise and financing to benefit Filipino farmers. At the fourth Philippines-France Joint Steering Committee, participants identified key areas such as animal health, food safety, dairy development, geographical indications, organic agriculture and research innovation.
Collaboration will be deepened with the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), focusing on research, graduate programs, scientific exchanges and mobility of researchers. Targeted sectors include mango and banana farming, aquaculture, agroecology, climate resilience, sustainable landscapes and advanced agritech, with France also offering training for Filipino veterinarians in biosecurity and disease control.
Why it matters
