Philippines Defense Secretary Calls for Joint Action to Safeguard Maritime Domain
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. urged collective action with like-minded partners to protect the Philippines’ maritime domain from foreign threats.
Speaking at the Third Balangay Forum held at Asia Pacific College, Teodoro highlighted the need for cooperation to boost maritime deterrence, humanitarian response and defense capabilities. He said partnerships are essential to preserve a rules-based international order and to counter attempts to rewrite narratives, citing China’s nine-dash line claim as a prime example. The secretary stressed that coordinated effort is the most effective way to safeguard the country’s waters.
