Philippines launches biggest overseas Filipino worker hub in Taipei, plans more centers
The Philippines opened its largest overseas Filipino worker service center in Taipei and aims to add two more sites in Taiwan within two years.
On Sunday, the Philippines’ Overseas Workers Welfare Administration opened the OFW Global Center-Taipei, the largest overseas Filipino worker service hub the country operates and the third globally after sites in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. Housed in the same building as the Manila Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei’s Neihu District, the center provides a one-stop venue for government services, welfare support and a range of training programmes, including Mandarin, financial literacy, computer, AI and entrepreneurship courses.
OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan emphasized that skill development protects migrant workers and can aid their post-return livelihoods. The facility also features a café, karaoke room and counseling services to address homesickness. Plans are under way to open comparable centers in Taichung and Kaohsiung within two years, likely near local MECO offices, to reduce travel burdens for workers in central and southern Taiwan.
Why it matters
It gives the roughly 191,000 Filipino workers in Taiwan easier access to services and skills training, improving their welfare and future prospects.
