Philippines lifts corn import quota to 500,000 metric tons under new executive order
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Executive Order 129, raising the corn Minimum Access Volume to 500,000 metric tons, more than double the previous limit.
The order, signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Oct. 26, increases the corn MAV from 220,000 to 500,000 metric tons, adding 280,000 tons eligible for reduced tariffs. The MAV Management Committee has 30 days to issue detailed guidelines. The change is intended to ease supply pressures amid lower harvest expectations.
Why it matters
Higher import limits may lower corn prices and improve food security in the Philippines.
