Officials reminded the public to promptly consult a doctor if they experience sudden high fever or intense body aches, and to avoid wading in floodwater while eliminating stagnant water where mosquitoes breed.

The dengue virus has four serotypes, and secondary infection with a different type can raise the risk of severe disease, according to the World Health Organization.
