Philippines says One China stance allows economic ties with Taiwan

The Department of one outlet confirmed that the Philippines continues to uphold the One China policy, recognizing the government of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate authority over China. Despite this stance, the DFA said the policy does not hinder the country from engaging in economic, cultural and functional cooperation with Taiwan, a close neighbor with a long history of trade. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was quoted stressing the need to avoid hostilities and resolve any disputes peacefully.

The agency highlighted its role in maintaining diplomatic channels and pursuing peace, stability and prosperity in the region. It reaffirmed that its diplomatic efforts will follow international law. The statement reflects Manila’s effort to balance its official position with practical ties to Taiwan.
