Philippines targets 10,000 solar-powered irrigation sites by 2030
The Marcos administration announced plans to expand solar-driven irrigation to 10,000 locations nationwide by 2030, aiming to cut farmers’ water costs and boost climate resilience.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said the expansion will be carried out under the Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation Program managed by the National Irrigation Administration. The initiative seeks to more than double one outlet network of solar pumps, lowering operating expenses for growers. It forms part of the government’s Vision 2030 roadmap to make agriculture more sustainable amid rising climate challenges.
