Phillies clinch wild-card win with historic ABS challenge in 10th inning
Philadelphia rallied from a 3-2 deficit to win Game 2 against Atlanta, sealing the comeback with the first playoff ABS overturn.
After falling behind 3-1 in the seventh, the Phillies responded with solo homers by Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper to level the score, and Alec Bohm delivered a decisive solo shot in the top of the tenth. With runners on first and second and two outs, Dominic Smith of Atlanta appeared to receive a ball on a 0-2 fastball, but catcher J.T. Realmuto promptly used the automated ball-strike challenge and was awarded a strike three, ending the game.
The overturn represents the first playoff use of the ABS, which debuted this season. Andrew Painter, normally a starter, provided three flawless innings out of the bullpen, striking out three batters. The win forces a decisive Game 3 in Atlanta the following day.
