Phone argument ends with driver steering car off Fresno County cliff
During a heated phone fight, a driver intentionally drove a vehicle off a cliff in Fresno County, resulting in multiple injuries and two fatalities.
Police say a telephone dispute escalated into a deliberate crash when a driver steered a vehicle off a cliff near the intersection of Sky Harbour Drive and Millerton Road in Fresno County on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred close to Table Mountain Casino and was followed by a helicopter sighting over Millerton Lake. The driver, an 18-year-old woman from Clovis, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, with her health status still pending.
The crash involved a collision between her Toyota and an 88-year-old man’s Nissan, each carrying multiple passengers, totaling eight people involved. Among the victims, 88-year-old Yvonne Cheney, a passenger in the Nissan, and 94-year-old Nellie Moreno, riding in the Toyota, later succumbed to their injuries. Authorities from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the circumstances, while the California Highway Patrol was also contacted for information.
