Phu Quoc speeds up 10-lane road, light rail and airport upgrades for APEC 2027
Vietnam is fast-tracking a 10-lane highway, light-rail line and airport expansion on Phu Quoc to meet APEC 2027 deadlines.
Phu Quoc’s DT975 corridor, a 62-metre wide link between the island’s international airport and the APEC Convention Center, is being built as a combined 10-lane highway and light-rail transit line. The LRT will run 14.81 km at grade, 0.78 km on viaducts and 2 km underground, with six stations reflecting Vietnam’s regional cultures and an underground APEC station. Construction is proceeding around the clock despite rainy weather, with trench work at about 65% and bridge work over 55% complete; paving is slated for late 2026 to early 2027.
Rail installation on the 17.59-km double-track line is expected within six months, positioning the project among Vietnam’s fastest urban rail builds. Officials say the upgrades, together with airport expansion and planned port projects, will transform Phu Quoc into an international tourism, trade and financial centre for APEC 2027 and beyond.
