Pickup truck crashes onto sidewalk at Fort Collins bike festival, killing one and injuring five

On Saturday morning, a Chevrolet pickup truck reversed from a parking space on Mountain Avenue and then moved forward onto a crowded sidewalk in Old Town Fort Collins, Colorado, during the city's yearly bicycle festival. The vehicle struck multiple pedestrians and slammed into a tree, prompting emergency crews to transport six individuals—including the driver—to hospitals. One of the victims, whose identity has not been released, was later pronounced dead, and five others sustained injuries of unspecified severity.

Fort Collins Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said investigators do not believe the driver intentionally targeted the crowd and that victim advocates are supporting those affected. The Fort Collins Police Services Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling Team is examining the crash, including whether impairment was a factor, and the site remained closed for roughly six hours while evidence was collected.
