Piketty's Global Justice Report proposes radical wealth cuts and climate reforms

The World Inequality Lab, led by economist Thomas Piketty, published the Global Justice Report in June, presenting an ambitious synthesis of progressive aims to slash income and wealth gaps and meet planetary sustainability targets. Key measures include confiscatory taxes aimed at eradicating the billionaire class in a quarter-century, democratizing international economic institutions through per-capita voting, and creating a new global currency to curb the dollar's privileged status.

The report also calls for redirecting productivity gains from material output to increased leisure time. Although the agenda resonates with socialist aspirations, the analysis argues the document falls short by glossing over the political challenges of forming a powerful enough coalition to counter entrenched elite opposition.
