Pittsburgh Steelers release backup kicker Laith Marjan after preseason miss

The Steelers announced they have cut backup kicker Laith Marjan following a missed 44-yard field goal in a preseason loss to the Jets.

Pittsburgh released Laith Marjan, who had been signed as an unrestricted free agent. Marjan failed to convert a 44-yard attempt in the 17-0 preseason defeat to New York. His camp performance was also deemed underwhelming. Previously, he spent a season at Kansas, converting all extra points and most field goals while being a Lou Groza Award semifinalist.

Why it matters

The move reshapes the Steelers' special-teams roster ahead of the regular season.
