PKR deputy sidesteps call to confront AI-linked fake support claims, warns of techno-fascism
Amirudin Shari refused to say whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should answer AI-driven fake-support allegations and warned that artificial intelligence could become a tool of techno-fascism, while also urging a tax system review.
During discussion of the Supply (Budget) Bill 2027, PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari said he could not explain allegations linking Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to an AI-driven effort that allegedly produced one million fake social-media views. The accusations arise from an Anthropic report that a threat actor misused its Claude model to micro-target Malaysians on racial, religious and royal sensitivities, though no significant electoral impact was found.
Shari noted that using “cyber troopers” is an established political tactic but cautioned that AI could evolve into a tool of “techno-fascism,” enabling mass surveillance and the creation of new myths. He urged the establishment of ethical AI guidelines before broader adoption. In addition, he called for a broader review of Malaysia’s tax system, warning that without reform the government will remain financially constrained and rely on government-linked investment companies, and mentioned proposals such as re-introducing GST or revising subsidies.
